Our Priority Is Your Most Precious Cargo
We are committed to the highest level of safety, security and reliability for all our vehicle equipment. And because our busses are only as good as the people driving them, we place particular emphasis on driver training, testing, certification and overall proficiency.
Student Expectations
CIT has developed rules to help guarantee a safe and enjoyable ride. Review these rules and expectations with your student.
- Stay seated at all times.
- Keep the aisles clear to prevent tripping.
- Keep your hands to yourself.
- Use inside voices. No yelling, screaming, chanting or singing. The bus driver can not safely operate the bus if distracted.
- Be respectful and treat others the way you wish to be treated.
School Bus Equipment
All school buses are inspected before each trip by drivers and regularly by Central Iowa Transit, Inc. mechanics to ensure the use of safe equipment. The Iowa Department of Education and the Iowa State Patrol inspect each vehicle twice a year to certify that it meets all regulations and laws relating to pupil transportation in the State of Iowa. Our school buses are equipped with a PA/microphone system, AM/FM audio system and we have three wheelchair accessible buses.
Driver Qualifications
Central Iowa Transit, Inc. requires drivers to maintain good driving records, attend regular safety meetings and attend yearly in-service workshops and training programs. Each driver must pass an initial criminal record check, mandatory drug test, subsequent random drug and alcohol tests, and maintain a Commercial Drivers License and School Bus Operators Permit. The School Bus Operators Permit is issued by the Department of Education and requires a DOT physical and 12 hours of initial certified training.
